Episode 92: The Collins Family Butler

Tuesday, November 1, 1966

My name is Victoria Winters. For the first time since I have come to live at Collinwood, I am away from the gloomy mansion I’ve now call home, waiting to see a man who may be able to help me in my search for my identity.

Vicki is finally at Garner & Garner.

Mr. Garner tells her he only knows that she’s been hired to tutor David.
He has as little idea about her past as she does.

Vicki says that sometimes she thinks Liz is keeping information from her.
Perhaps her father was a convicted murderer or something like that.

Vicki shows him the ledger sheet.

The only Hanscomb he can recall was the Collins butler.
He doesn’t recall the butler’s first name.
It was a large staff back in the day.

Vicki asks if they can ask his partner if he remembers anything.

Mr. Garner calls him in, and introduces his son, Frank, who is much too young to know anything about the ledger.
The previous second Garner was Mr. Garner’s brother, who died.

The elder Mr. Garner has to go, but Frank would like to help with the mystery, so Vicki tells him her story.

He says he’ll go through the wage lists for the last twenty or so years and try to find an address for Hanscomb’s last check.

He asks his secretary to clear the rest of his afternoon.

Vicki goes to lunch and Burke asks to join her.

He says he can tell she’s had no luck.

It’s in her eyes.

She feels like her past is being kept from her.

And she can’t bring herself to believe that the Collins family has anything to do with it?

Burke is sure that she’ll turn out to belong somewhere better than with the Collins family.
Because she’s a much finer person than any of them.
He offers her a ride back.
She accepts. (She should stay the few days to forget, and to see if Frank comes up with anything.)

Frank comes in and Burke leaves.
Frank and Vicki talk a little about Burke and the manslaughter conviction, and his making good after he got out.

Frank hasn’t found anything out quite yet.

Mr. Garner calls Liz to tell her about Vicki’s visit.
