Note: The
episodes’ official numbering includes skipped numbers for pre-emptions, in
accordance with their numbering system (so that one could look at the number of
an episode and know what day of the week it aired on). I have elected to number
the episodes by what episode it actually is (this is the 114th episode, but the
official number is 116), but I will note the official numbering also.
My name is
Victoria Winters. Since I came to live at Collinwood, my life has been in
danger several times. Until a moment ago, I thought the danger had passed, only
to find myself trapped in a deserted old house by a desperate man who has already
tried to murder me.
Vicki tries to run but Matthew
grabs her.
He says it’s too bad she found out (although she wouldn’t have found
out if he hadn’t picked up her wallet and stayed hidden, so whatever, Matthew,
you want to do this).
Matthew says he knows Vicki
hates him.
She says she doesn’t hate him;
she’s just afraid of him.
He warns her against making a
run for it.
He drags her into a hidden
room behind a bookcase door.
A cab driver arrives for Vicki,
but Mrs. Johnson says tries calling for her and says she must have gotten a
ride.
Matthew says he’s going to go
to sea for the rest of his life after a while.
He blames Vicki for turning
almost everyone against him, especially Mrs. Stoddard.
Vicki did the worst
thing anyone could do, turning friend against friend.
She says he acts as if
she plotted against him.
Mrs. Johnson tells Liz that
Carolyn must have a date because she had Mrs. Johnson press a dress. Liz
assumes it’s with Joe.
Mrs. Johnson tells her about
the taxi.
Liz thinks it’s odd Vicki didn’t cancel it. She looks for Vicki’s
suitcase in the hall, but doesn’t see it (it’s in the closet), so she thinks
she must have gotten off all right.
Mrs. Johnson gives her the
newspaper, full of news about Matthew. (I’m surprised there’s a recent picture
of Matthew.)
Mrs. Johnson hopes he gets put
in prison for the rest of his life.
Liz can’t help pitying
Matthew.
Mrs. Johnson isn’t having it.
Liz feels she’s lost two
friends, Mr. Malloy and Matthew.
The phone rings and it’s
Frank, wondering why Vicki didn’t arrive on the bus.
Liz and Mrs. Johnson assume
she’s waiting for the next one, although Liz says it’s natural to worry about
Vicki after so much has happened to her this last week.
Matthew tells Vicki to get up
and she does.
He says she’s lucky he didn’t
kill her. He had a mind to.
She says she knows it was an
accident. Everyone knows that.
She and Liz told the sheriff so.
She tells him the sheriff
doesn’t have men on the grounds anymore.
There are no roadblocks, because he
thinks Matthew’s miles away.
Matthew says that isn’t what
his friend told him.
She says his friend is lying
to him.
She tries to convince him he
can get into his car and leave.
He says he’s trying to decide
whether to believe her.
Liz hears from Frank that
Vicki wasn’t on the next bus either. Mrs. Johnson says that if Carolyn was on a
date, Joe would have picked her up. She goes to see if Carolyn’s car is in the
garage. If it isn’t, she thinks that will mean she gave Vicki a ride. (She would
be there much faster by car, though.)
Matthew decides he’ll go
outside and see if there are any police around.
If not, he’ll leave. Vicki’ll
figure out some way to get out of that room or somebody will find her, no
problem.
He goes to look.
Vicki pushes the bookcase door
open.
She leaves the house.
Matthew grabs her and drags
her back inside, giving her a shove that makes her stumble as he pushes her in
the door.
He says he knew he couldn’t
trust her. He knew she was lying to him. He runs at Vicki and she screams.
