Episode 107: No One Would Hurt Her

Tuesday, November 22, 1966

My name is Victoria Winters. I have lived through a terrifying week at Collinwood. Twice, someone has tried to kill me. Now, at last, the sheriff is asking questions. And a friend has arrived in Collinsport, a friend who wants to help and protect me.

Frank arrives. His father tells him that Vicki is doing well for a girl who’s been through what she’s been through. She’s probably back at Collinwood. Mr. Garner doesn’t think Roger did it.
Frank isn’t so sure.
Mr. Garner says when they find the gas station Roger stopped at, it will verify his alibi.
Frank wonders who could have done it if it wasn’t Roger.
Mr. Garner says they’re going to question someone named Sam Evans.
Frank wants to sit in.
Sam even wears a tie for the occasion.
Sam is shocked that someone would try to kill Vicki.
The sheriff asks about Sam’s meeting with Vicki at the Blue Whale. He admits he had heard about her theory that Bill was murdered, and he wanted to ask her about it. Simple curiosity.
Then he went down to the beach to look at it, because it’s the subject of his next painting.
Sam says he doesn’t have any motive to harm Vicki.
Frank says he has to go to Collinwood, but he’ll be back.
The sheriff lets Sam leave, but calls someone to keep an eye on him.

Vicki goes to the drawing room and closes the window. It’s windy out.
She tries to read a magazine.
There’s a knock on the door. (We imagine this is Frank.)
It’s Frank, much to Vicki’s relief.
Frank wants to know who at Collinwood would want to harm her, outside of Roger.
No one. David’s weird, but she doesn’t think he’d try to kill her. (Well . . .)
Frank asks about her meeting with Sam last night.
She tells him about Burke’s theory that Sam covered up for the hit and run.
Frank says that could give him a motive.
But he couldn’t have gotten into the house.
Frank says maybe he and Roger are working together or individually to keep her quiet.
He asks her to dinner and she accepts.
Liz is looking for David. Vicki thinks he might have gone to the old house. She’s going to look for him there.
Liz calls Matthew to have him look at the cliffs.
Matthew says he’s probably at the old house, but Liz says Vicki is going to look for him there. Matthew agrees to search by the cliffs.
Vicki tells Liz not to worry—she’ll find David.
Mr. Garner wants to know how long it takes to check out an alibi.
Frank comes in and says they shouldn’t have let Sam go. It’s possible he is covering up for the old manslaughter case. Mr. Garner takes him aside and says to forget about that, because Roger’s involved, but Frank isn’t having it.

George questions Sam about his motive and his lack of alibi. Sam insists he has the wrong man.

Matthew goes up the steps to the old house.
Vicki comes along with her flashlight.

Matthew is above the pillars.
He pushes an urn off.
It misses Vicki.
