Episode 108: Choices

Wednesday, November 23, 1966

My name is Victoria Winters. Just when the terror in my life seemed to be subsiding, and the pleasure of a weekend away from Collinwood was moments away, I suddenly found myself facing a situation more horrible than anything I had known.

Vicki runs into Matthew’s house, hoping to escape her attacker.
Matthew comes in and asks what she’s doing. She says she’s calling the sheriff and he asks why.

She says she doesn’t have time to call him now, but she’ll tell him later.

He stops her from calling, taking the phone away from her and asking her to explain.

She tells him someone tried to kill her, pushed a stone urn down.

She tries to pick up the phone, but he stops her again. He doesn’t want her making trouble for the Collins family.
She tries to leave and he grabs her.

David comes home and tells Liz he was playing at the cliffs.
She wonders why Vicki isn’t back yet.

Matthew tells Vicki he wants her to sit down so he can ask her questions.
He wants to know what she found out about Mr. Malloy’s death. David overheard her say she thinks she knows who did it.
She tells him about the fountain pen and how that proves that Roger was lying.
Matthew calls it a foolish notion that Roger was involved.
She tells him someone has tried to kill her at least twice. Someone tried to run her down.
Matthew says Roger wouldn’t have done that.
Vicki says he could have been in cahoots with someone. Or someone else is guilty.
Matthew asks who.
Vicki says she doesn’t know (she’s getting a good idea now, though).

David says maybe the ghosts got Vicki. Liz sends him to go have his dinner.

Frank arrives for his date with Vicki.
He’s worried she isn’t back yet.
They decide to go look for her.

They don’t find anything but the broken urn.
When they return, Liz decides to call Matthew before calling the sheriff.

Matthew tells Vicki no one would hurt her.
When Liz calls, Matthew says he hasn’t seen “her.”
Vicki wants to know whether he means her, but she doesn’t ask before he hangs up.
He claims she was asking about Carolyn.
Vicki says Carolyn isn’t expected back till late.
Matthew says she seems afraid. She denies it.
He says she needs to stop causing trouble.
He tells her the car probably didn’t see her.
It’s hard to see on a country road at eight o’clock at night.
She wonders how he knew what time it was.
When she tries to leave, he grabs her and drags her back.

The sheriff arrives at Collinwood and goes out to look for Vicki.

Vicki denies thinking Matthew has something to do with Bill’s death.
She knows he didn’t have any reason to do that.
She tells him she feels sick. She promises not to try to run if he gets her water.
He goes to get whiskey. She tries to run out the door, but he drags her back. He admits to killing Bill.

She asks what he’s going to do.
 He says he doesn’t know.

She says they'll search for her everywhere. He has to let her go.

He says he can’t let her go. He has to kill her.
